February through early March is the perfect time of year to prune your street tree(s).
I talked with Wes Harper—our landscaper—and he indicated that now would be a good time of the year to prune the street trees as well as most others. He recommends removing the limbs on the lower one third of the tree. This leaves enough limbs to ensure the tree remains healthy.
We’d like to get enough of the lower limbs removed so that average adults can use the sidewalk without having to stoop over or go around the tree. We’ve had several people report that they’ve gotten poked by the limbs as they walk or jog by.
Please check the street tree in your yard and limb it up using the one third technique suggested by the landscaper.
